This one-time training will cover the big ideas of the NWESD P-3 Literacy Alignment Initiative including an overview of how fine motor and oral language develop across the early learning years. We will explore the aligned tools and processes to support early writing the use of aligned grade level benchmarks to guide instruction planning for intentional assessment of student work and understandings of the text forms and features of narrative informational and opinion writing. This workshop is only open to districts who participated in the P-3 Literacy Alignment Initiative with NWESD. Districts should send one or two representatives who were previously involved in this professional development and who will have the capacity to provide ongoing teacher support in literacy and/or orient new hires to P-3 literacy in their respective districts. Each district will receive a demonstration set of materials flash drives with video vignettes power point presentations and a training binder with useful tools.
