Starting in September, we will be studying the book Comprehensive Literacy for All: Teaching Students with Significant Disabilities to Read and Write by Karen A Erickson and David A Koppenhaver. The authors have decades of experience working with students with significant disabilities and have created a plan for providing access to literacy skills and support for students with complex communication needs. 

We invite you to join us in the planning and organizing of literacy activities for your students, birth to 22. Please feel free to work as a school team, individually, or grade level teams to make it work best for your current working situation. All are welcome! 

Below is a description of what the book (it is amazing!) study will cover as we walk through the authors’ planning guides and resources. 

We will also review and highlight the resources that the District has available to you, so please don’t feel like you need to do anything other than buy and read your book!  

Training Plan:

On your own time, complete the asynchronous Schoology work while you read the chapters. Then we will have a zoom discussion and learning time to help create a plan for your classroom. 

During the in-person Make and Take, you may do problem solving, planning with your team and creation of materials/access resources to support your work. That time is for you and is not mandatory for attendance/completion of the work, but is eligible for PD time.
