Description
Right Response is a behavioral intervention training program designed to equip staff—especially those in schools, healthcare, and social services—with the tools to prevent, de-escalate, and safely respond to challenging behaviors, including aggression or self-harm.
Key Components of Right Response:
Prevention and De-escalation: Emphasizes identifying early signs of distress and using communication and environmental strategies to reduce escalation.
Physical Safety Techniques: If a situation becomes physically dangerous, Right Response teaches safe and approved physical interventions to protect the individual and others.
Post-Incident Processing: Supports reflection and planning to reduce future incidents.
Person-Centered Approach: Focuses on maintaining the dignity and rights of the individual, with a strong emphasis on empathy and trauma-informed practices.
Compliance and Risk Management: Helps organizations meet safety and legal obligations related to student/client care.
In Schools:
Right Response is often required for special education teachers, paraeducators, and other staff who support students with significant behavioral challenges or safety needs, particularly if outlined in a student’s Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) or Individualized Education Program (IEP).
