Description
Participants will learn strategies to engage students in real-world geologic mysteries and fascinating Ice Age Floods detective work in this interactive STEAM workshop. Rick Reynolds, M.S.Ed., veteran educator and Founder of Engaging Every Student, will team up with Michelle Grove, Regional Science Coordinator at the Shadle Park Library Maker Studio to step educators through hands-on activities that engage students with NGSS-aligned science phenomena.
Landscapes and human communities across a vast area of the Northwest have been shaped by these remarkable events through the present day. Every student in Washington should experience the incredible science story of the megafloods that shaped our landforms and history!
- 9:00-12:00 | Interactive workshop featuring new Ice Age Floods Discovery curriculum
- 12-12:30 | Working lunch
- 12:30-3:30 | Interactive workshop featuring Investigating Ice Age Floods curriculum
- 3:30–4:00 | (Optional) Interpretive field study with expert from Ice Age Floods Institute at a nearby Floods site
Presented in partnership with the Ice Age Floods Institute (IAFI), ESD 101, and the National Park Service, supported by grants from Avista Foundation and IAFI.
Event Notes
Workshop qualifies for up to 7 STEM clock hours and includes lunch. Educators may attend morning, afternoon, or all day.
