Description
This professional learning session will help teachers integrate AI-powered assessment tools into math and science instruction using Kami. Participants will explore Kami’s AI question creator to generate discipline-specific questions (multiple choice, short answer, and open-ended prompts) aligned to their existing STEM learning targets and standards. They will learn how to embed these questions directly in Kami documents to create interactive, formative assessments that support real-time checks for understanding and differentiation.
The session directly supports Mukilteo School District’s Strategic Plan Goals 1 and 2 by strengthening high-quality instruction, assessment, and student engagement in STEM content areas. Specifically, it builds capacity for providing quality core instruction aligned to standards, regularly assessing student learning, and adjusting instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
The design of the session aligns with the 5D+ Teacher Evaluation Rubric by emphasizing:
P1/P4/P5 – Purpose & Learning Targets: Teachers will create clear, standards-based STEM learning targets and success criteria, and practice making them visible in Kami assignments.
SE1/SE4/SE5 – Student Engagement: Kami quizzes will be designed to promote meaningful student talk, discipline-specific problem solving, and opportunities for all students to participate in STEM reasoning.
A1/A4 – Assessment for Student Learning: Participants will use Kami’s question tools as formative assessment, gather evidence of student thinking, and plan how to use that data to inform future instruction.
The session also incorporates CCDEI standards by modeling how to:
Use inclusive, culturally responsive contexts in math and science questions.
Adapt AI-generated questions to reflect students’ lived experiences and strengths.
Build partnerships with students by inviting their input on which question types and contexts feel most engaging and accessible.
Because the focus is on math and science concepts, practices, and formative assessment using a technology tool, this session is intended to qualify for STEM clock hours under Washington STEM PD expectations.
