With the Smarter Balanced Assessment being given in October this year, elementary students will have never experienced engaging in Smarter Balanced questions. Formative Assessment Probes engage students in becoming familiar with the type of assessment questions AND surfaces student thinking about why they chose their particular answer. Formative Assessment Probes are an excellent resource for formative assessment and take only take about 10 min. Probes surface student misconceptions and thinking that will help guide instruction and intervention strategies. Participants will come away from the workshop learning what are Formative Assessment Probes, how to implement them in your classroom as a best practice in supporting student and instruction, how probes can be used to support PLCs and instruction throughout the year, and participants will be provided with many probes to use within your grade level.
