Description
Computer Science Discoveries is an introductory computer science course for 6 - 10th grade students. Mapped to CSTA standards, the course takes a wide lens on computer science by covering topics such as problem solving, programming, physical computing, user centered design, and data, while inspiring students as they build their own websites, apps, animations, games, and physical computing systems.
CS Discoveries can be flexibly taught as a single semester, two semesters over multiple years, or as a full-year course. Options are even available for less than one semester. To learn more, go to: https://code.org/educate/csd
Professional development for CS Discoveries is hosted by AVID, Code.org’s Regional Partner for Washington State. Applicants to the program must commit to:
- Attending* a five-day summer workshop (June 27 – July 1, 2022) in Seattle, WA (venue location, TBD)
- Attending 4 one-day or 8 half-day follow-up sessions during the 2022-23 school year
- Teaching the course in the 2022-23 school year
- Supporting the recruitment of a diverse student group, representative of the school student population
STEM Clock Hours available for all PD sessions through AVID.

**SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE!!**
The cost of this training is $1,500. However, many teachers who attend CS Discoveries workshops often do on FULL or PARTIAL scholarship. Unsure if you qualify for financial aid? E-mail Code@AVID.org and ask about financial scholarship.
