When we say a child is 'fluent' in math, we are typically only assessing if they are Accurate and Efficient. There is a missing and even more important component to building fluency: Flexibility. This training will help teachers build students' fluency by increasing their flexibility with numbers through hands-on and minds-on activities. Participants will leave with an understanding of how number sense affects students' ability to become 'fluent' with mathematics and how that impacts certain math concepts from K-5. 

Christina Tondevold is a Recovering Traditionalist. She previously taught mathematics traditionally and expected the students to parrot back what she taught them.
