Voices from the Field Arts Academy provides quality arts experiences and infusing the arts specifically in mathematics and English Language Arts for middle school educators through the Washington State Migrant Education Program. Many migratory middle school students have not had a great number of opportunities to experience the arts in their regular school day. OSPI has partnered with Arts Impact to create arts-infused Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA) lessons, and teaching and learning opportunities for migrant ed communities. With educators participating from communities with a high population of migratory education enrolled students, this meets four of the needs in OSPI's Migratory Education's Seven Areas of Concern Opportunity: Educational Continuity (teaching and learning approach is the same through each of the migratory districts); Time for Instruction (teaching shared concepts in real world processes that are meaning full to students, builds student knowledge connections and encourages students to be active participants in their learning); Social Engagement (infusing the arts with other core subjects promotes behavioral, emotional and cognitive engagement - which all are part of the creative and critical thinking process used in the arts); and English Language Development.
