Seeing is believing! During the 4-day Classroom Demonstration, teachers will see how a classroom of learners will respond to, and engage in, strategies from the GLAD® model and how the strategies relate to the WIDA ELD Framework. Observers will see how students produce academic language, engage in meaningful academic discourse and gain comprehension of grade-level content. The strategies not only boost academic engagement and progress, but the power of the strategies are truly a result of how frequently student voice, identity and assets are honored and amplified within the strategies. The social and emotional needs of students play a central role to the acquisition of language and content. Over the course of 4 days, a sequential stream of GLAD® strategies will build relationships among students and with their teachers. The classroom demonstration will based upon a standards-based thematic unit and it will be delivered in a classroom as teacher participants look on and receive strategic coaching from a co-trainer who highlights the critical instructional routines that connect to each proceeding strategy and provide frequent opportunities for students to receive comprehensible input, oral language development and engage in relevant literacy tasks. The classroom demonstration will occur during the first half of the day and the afternoon will be focused on reflecting on the classroom demonstration, clarifying strategies, and confirming connections to the WIDA Framework.
