Description

This 7-hour, self-paced course helps K–12 educators build a strong foundation for writing instruction using the Simple View of Writing. You'll learn how transcription skills—handwriting, keyboarding, spelling, and punctuation—play a critical role in writing fluency and reduce the cognitive load that can get in the way of student success.

Throughout the course, you'll will explore a structured spelling routine focused on sound-symbol correspondence and dictation, and develop their approach to teaching sentence structure—from simple sentences to more complex forms. You'll also gain practical tools for supporting all learners, including multilingual students and those with learning differences, through scaffolds and clear instructional routines.

Whether you're new to teaching or looking to strengthen Tier 1 instruction, this course offers ready-to-use strategies and guidance you can apply right away in your classroom.
