Description

This self-paced course helps educators strengthen Tier 1 writing instruction by bridging the gap between comprehension and composition. Participants will explore how vocabulary development supports students in expressing their learning through writing—moving from single-paragraph responses to organized, multi-paragraph compositions.

The course begins with strategies for teaching vocabulary intentionally and incidentally to support both receptive (reading, listening) and productive (speaking, writing) language. From there, participants will dive into paragraph writing: crafting topic sentences, building supporting details, and writing purposeful conclusions. The second half of the course focuses on guiding students to develop full compositions, with an emphasis on organization, transitions, and coherence. Self-regulated writing strategies and instructional scaffolds will also be shared to help students build independence and confidence in their writing.

Designed for classroom teachers, specialists, and instructional coaches, this course offers a blend of reflection, application, and evidence-based strategies that can be put into practice immediately.
