Description

Are you looking for an opportunity to map out specific ideas for connecting your science unit to your region, community, and students? Would you want to gather in-person with your peers to brainstorm ideas together? Do you need STEM and Equity Clock Hours?

Join us for a FREE Saturday session on February 28th at the Brightwater Education Center in Woodinville.

Staff from IslandWood and Olympic ESD will facilitate a series of short introductions to opportunities, followed by ample time to brainstorm and develop ideas for localizing your unit to YOUR community. You will have an opportunity to develop ideas for unit-specific related phenomena, adapt connections activities and find ways to incorporate local community assets into your unit’s learning progression. Leave the session with a plan for ideas to try out when you teach the unit with your students!

This workshop is a follow-up to our online “Introduction to Localizing National Science Units” workshop. If you have not attended one of our Introduction to Localizing Workshops, we will provide a recording to watch before we meet.

Details:

Those who turn in a reflection on a pre-reading, attend the workshop, and complete a follow-up survey will receive 6 clock hours (5 STEM and 1 Equity). An additional 1.5 STEM clock hours will be added for those who watch and reflect on the recorded introductory session.

Participants will bring a science unit to focus on. We suggest choosing one that you are teaching or supporting, and that has potential for local connections (Life and Earth Science units work well).

The workshop is from 8:30am - 2:30pm at the Brightwater Education Center in Woodinville. There will be a break for lunch.

Additional Note: After completing this course, teachers will need to claim and pay for clock hours on pdEnroller ($3/clock hour).
