Description

In this module, students will engage with two major phenomena: there are patterns of land and water on Earth and we can represent those patterns with models, including maps. Students begin the module by exploring the kinds of land and water on Earth through a card-sorting activity. They use their observations to create definitions of each kind of land and water and then demonstrate their understanding by developing a three-dimensional model using modeling dough. Next, students explore the patterns of water on Earth by planning and carrying out an investigation into the properties of solid and liquid water.

This Asynchronous Canvas course prepares teachers to: • Access online teacher and student resources • Develop understanding of the unit’s storyline, instructional model, and standards alignment. • Organize and manage the materials in the unit to support student learning activities. • Support and assess student sense-making with a variety of strategies, including science notebooks. • Provide examples or resources about STEM-related career choices to use with students
