Violent Critical Incident Options-based Response Training (Part 1 of 2)

Tue, April 21 2026 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Administered by ESD 113

Presenters

  • Alexandra Fiola

Description

This introductory two‑hour session provides K–12 school employees with a clear, accessible overview of the ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) civilian response program. Designed specifically for school environments, this training focuses on understanding the core principles of ALICE, how they apply in K–12 settings, and how options‑based response strategies support coordinated school safety efforts.

This session is informational in nature—no scenarios or drills—making it approachable for all school staff, regardless of previous emergency‑response experience. Participants will gain a solid foundation that prepares them for the second session in this series.

Preview of Session 2:
A few weeks later, participants will have the option to return for a critical‑thinking drill built from a tabletop exercise delivered through an interactive card‑based game. This follow-up session will allow staff to apply ALICE concepts in a supportive, low‑stress environment and explore decision‑making through real‑world school‑based situations.
