Description

This course is open to current K-12 Washington public school educators only.  Participants must be eligible for a WIDA Secure Portal account and register with their work email address.  

Audience: This webinar series is designed for mathematics educators and language specialists who share their learning with colleagues through collaboration or coaching. 

Description: This workshop explores the importance of engagement in math conversations for multilingual learners in a two-part webinar series. Participants will be prompted to prepare for the first webinar and to complete post-webinar tasks. Elementary and secondary classroom videos provide content and support for post-webinar tasks that encourage participants to collaborate with a colleague. Discussion boards provide additional collaboration opportunities over the course of the workshop.

By participating in the live webinars, participants will build their skills in 

  • Recognizing characteristics of equitable classroom spaces where multilingual learners engage in deep mathematical discourse 
  • Structuring supports and scaffolding that build students’ repertoires for communicating their math questions and ideas. 
  • Deciding when to guide students toward more precise mathematical language 

Participation Requirements

  1. Attend two live, 75 minute WIDA webinars 
  2. Engage in pre- and post-webinar work, approximately, 1 hour of work.

 Participants must attend the two, 75-min webinars to receive clock hours. 

Event Notes

Access course:

Washington State public school educators and approved private school educators access the WIDA Self- Paced Workshops via the WIDA Secure Portal.

 If you do not have a WIDA Secure Portal account, follow the steps below:

  1. Use your district email address and email WIDA Client Services Center at help@wida.wisc.edu and request a WIDA Secure Portal account.
  2. WIDA will send you an access link within 24 hours. Set up your login username and password.
  3. Access the WIDA Secure Portal.
  4. Select the “Professional Learning” path.
  5. Scroll to the Self-Paced Workshop tile and click on the course link 
  6. Select the course and begin.

Get clock hours:

  1. To receive clock hours, participants must fulfil the time requirements of the course.  1 hour of "active participation" equals one clock hour. 
  2. Clock hours will not be awarded for less than 1 hour of time spent actively participating in the course as per WAC 181-85-030. No exceptions will be made.
  3. Upon course completion, fill out the course survey in pdEnroller: Login to your pdEnroller account, go to your Events, click on this event, then go to the Clock Hour Checklist and take the survey. 
  4. OSPI will download course completion reports from the WIDA Secure Portal to verify course completion and time spent actively participating in the course.
