Description

Wouldn't it be fabulous if all math learners were fluent in their basic facts AND they retained that learning?  Join your colleagues for a short session that will support K-2nd teachers as they grow their understanding of what fluency in math is, beginning with fact fluency and how to assess it.  This professional learning is directly tied to our updated and revised WA Math 2025 Standards.  This professional learning will focus on supporting all students as they work to master the basic facts for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  This is an essential goal for all students and is the foundation on which all mathematical computation is based!

This robust and highly interactive professional learning is based on work by mathematicians Jennifer Bay-Williams and Gina Kling in their book, Math Fact Fluency:  60+ Games and Assessment Tools to Support Learning and Retention.  We will explore five fundamentals designed for strategy use in math learning and retention through games and assessments that will lead students to not only learn basic facts, but to retain these important facts and use them flexibly in higher level mathematics.

A copy of the book will be provided to all participants
