Description

Course Description

This blended learning course designed for K–12 educators focuses on the foundational skills of media literacy, digital citizenship, digital literacy, because they are absolutely essential to help educators navigate our information-rich and AI-enabled environment.

Through a combination of two live Zoom sessions and asynchronous tasks in Canvas, participants will deepen their own understanding of these literacies, why they are especially important in our information-saturated, AI-powered world of today, and how they show up in existing Washington State Standards.

Participants will explore the skills involved in these literacies and how students develop and deepen these skills over time.  We will examine realistic classroom scenarios—such as misinformation, online conflict, and AI-generated content—and practice identifying skills that can help students navigate these scenarios in ways that support their understanding, agency, and responsible decision-making.

EXPECTATIONS

This course is designed to be fully participatory and includes two required live Zoom sessions in addition to asynchronous work on Canvas. Active engagement is an essential part of the learning experience. To support meaningful interaction, participants should plan to join live Zoom sessions using a computer (not a phone) with speakers, a camera, and a microphone.  No AI assistants or AI notetakers will be admitted to the Live Sessions.
