Description
This 2.0-hour professional learning session represents the Awareness and Understanding phase of a multiyear standards rollout model for the 2026 Washington State ELA Learning Standards. The same session will be offered multiple times to provide educators with flexible opportunities to participate.
The focus of this learning is to build shared understanding of the foundational shifts that support the revised standards. Participants will become familiar with the vision, organization, and foundational design of the 2026 Washington State ELA Learning Standards.
During the session, participants will explore the Key Shift, Key Understandings, Student Literacy Practices, and other foundational elements of the standards while learning how to access and navigate supporting OSPI resources and the standards spreadsheet. The session emphasizes awareness, sense-making, and collaborative understanding rather than implementation, curriculum adoption, or instructional planning.
No implementation or planning is expected as a result of this learning.
