Description

This interactive session will explore the essential relationship between reading and writing, using evidence-based frameworks such as the Simple View of Reading (SVR) and the Simple View of Writing (SVW). Participants will gain insights into how these frameworks connect and why teaching foundational literacy skills is critical to reducing cognitive load in writing. By understanding how reading and writing processes interact, educators can implement effective strategies that support both decoding and composition, improving student literacy outcomes. This session will also provide practical approaches to integrating reading and writing routines into daily instruction and examine evidence-based teaching principles—such as explicit instruction, scaffolding, and the use of mentor texts—to support diverse learners.
