Educators will build awareness and initial understanding of the 2026 Washington State ELA Learning Standards. Using OSPI’s What’s New, Key Shifts, and Initial Standards guidance documents, participants will explore the purpose, vision, structure, literacy practices, key understandings, and significant changes within the revised standards.

Participants will then engage in an initial Phase 2 exploration of selected standards. In grade band and building teams, educators will compare the revised standards with current standards, curriculum, and biliteracy maps to identify what feels familiar, what is different, where alignment already exists, and what requires deeper study. This session is intended to build shared understanding and identify future learning needs.
