This one-day summit on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB), to be held on September 24, 2026, aims to foster a more inclusive and equitable agency culture by providing employees with valuable insights, skills, and perspectives. The day will feature OPSI divisions sharing methods they have implemented to advance important DEIB work, deepening our understanding and inspiring our own reflection and innovation. Moving from listening to diverse voices to embedding their interests and needs into our everyday work via actionable, concrete, and measurable strategies. 

Each 30-minute session will demonstrate evidence of inclusion: 

Inclusion → Whose voice or data informed this work?

Action → What did the division do differently? 

Evidence → What changed (a number, a policy, an outcome) and what results have been seen? 

The summit aims will feature a keynote from the Superintendent of Public Instruction and four blocks of division presentations.

Block 4 Divisions: Student Engagement and Special Programs / Special Education 

 Outcome: By the end of the summit, employees will have gained:

1. Increased awareness and understanding of OSPI's programs and policies.

2. Practical strategies and tools to cultivate belonging in personal and professional interactions.

3. The insights and perspectives from internal subject matter experts that will enrich their understanding of diverse experiences and viewpoints.

4. What it means to impact: Every student seen. Every voice counted. Every outcome transformed.

5. A network of peers and resources to support ongoing learning and action in promoting every facet of Equity and Inclusion.

In alignment with OSPI's goal 3, "prepare all students with educators who are reflective of our global society by increasing access to a workforce that is diverse, culturally responsive, and racially literate," the summit aims to inspire employees to become agents of positive change within the agency and the students and educators OSPI serves, driving tangible progress toward greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging whilst demonstrating whose voices are informing their work, what did they do differently, and what changed.
