Description
Come learn with EarthGen in this virtual professional development opportunity designed for teachers in Educational Service District (ESD) 112. Through asynchronous and synchronous learning, participants will have a chance to authentically engage with activities and experts as they grow their understanding of how climate change has and will impact their community.
Teachers will explore the foundations of climate science curated by a climate scientist and lecturer from the University of Washington. Teachers will explore and express the emotions brought up when learning about climate change and what action they can take with their students. It is vital to acknowledge, understand, and work with these emotions in order to identify oppressive systems, connect with our communities, align with our greater purpose, and be better changemakers.
Teachers will leave this training with increased preparedness to facilitate climate science-focused activities using the science & engineering practices of developing and using models, analyzing and interpreting data and developing explanations and designing solutions. Teachers will develop an understanding of ways to support students in navigating their climate emotions and how to integrate art practices with science content. Teachers will learn from professionals in their region who are doing work at the intersections of art and Climate Change in an effort to prepare them with resources to spur action in their community.
Teachers will receive a sub reimbursement from the ESD and 10 STEM clock hours upon completion of the STEM Seminar.
