This one-day workshop will provide participants with a foundation for what coaching is, what it looks and sounds like, and how one might apply it to their goals.  There are many approaches to coaching in schools—from instructional, to student-centered, to transformational, to strengths-based. This workshop takes the best from all those models and supports people in using coaching skills and tools no matter their role.

What is coaching?

Coaching is a form of professional development that is ongoing, job-embedded, and differentiated to meet the needs of each coachee. Research indicates coaching is the most optimal form of professional development because of its purpose. Coaching can be a transformative process that allows for adult learners to build capacity to improve their craft by examining their beliefs, behaviors, and ways of being; through this examination, adult learners are able to shift in ways that allow them to grow and do their best work. Coaching is a process that happens in conversation. Through confidential, non-evaluative conversations, a coach facilitates teachers’ growth through challenging questions, dialogue, and reflection—ultimately empowering teachers to find their internal wisdom as a catalyst for growth.
