Description
Dr. John Medina, developmental molecular biologist, will explore the dramatic neurological changes that directly impact academic progress and engagement during adolescence. His insights are of paramount importance to educators, especially in regards to educating adolescent multilingual learners who have the challenge of learning increasingly complex information while increasing proficiency with academic English. Base upon his book, Attack of the Teenage Brain; Understanding and Supporting the Weird and Wonderful Adolescent Learner, Dr. Medina will propose a bold redesign of instructional routines and classroom environments that will promote a sense of agency within teenage learners to help them manage their emotions, create plans and focus on identified priorities. The goal of his work is to help us view teen behavior from a neurological perspective so we can help our teenagers become more successful learners and participants in our local communities.
