Description

You can be an experienced and seasoned teacher and never have a visually impaired student in your class.  Suddenly, they are on your class list and you are worried about what to do!  How will I teach them!? This course will help teachers, paraeducators, and school staff working with visually impaired students to equip you with some easy strategies to prepare you for a successful year.  This course will highlight sample lesson plans, common adaptations, and how to  prepare and collaborate with the help of your Teacher for Vision Impaired students (TVI) team on all accommodations. Our goal is to increase your confidence in working with visually impaired students. You will also gain an understanding of vision diagnoses and who might qualify for vision services. Students that wear glasses do not always qualify! This is an experiential course, so participants should be prepared for hands-on experience to better understand how to support and cue visually impaired students. Lunch will be provided along with break out stations and activities to give participants a better understanding of some of the challenges a student with vision impairment may face every day.
