Description

LETRS® (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) empowers educators with the knowledge and tools to apply the Science of Reading in any classroom—regardless of curriculum. This professional learning series equips you to effectively teach reading and language skills to all students. Built on the principle that teachers, not programs, teach students to read,” LETRS helps you become the expert your students need.

Why Choose LETRS Volume 1?

  • Build Deep Understanding: Explore the science behind how children learn to read and spell. Understand the cognitive processes involved and how assessment informs prevention and differentiation.
  • Strengthen Foundational Instruction: Develop a strong grasp of phonological awareness (development, instruction, and assessment) to support early reading success.
  • Deliver Comprehensive Literacy Instruction: Master phonics instruction by understanding the structure and predictability of English orthography. Learn how to assess and teach phonics and word recognition effectively.
  • Expand with Advanced Strategies: Learn to teach morphology, spelling, and fluency to strengthen students’ decoding and word recognition skills.

What’s Included in LETRS Volume 1 training?

  • LETRS Book: Four units filled with research-based content, practical applications, and tools to elevate your literacy instruction, including the PAST Assessment and a detailed Scope and Sequence for Word Study, Reading, and Spelling.
  • Asynchronous Modules: A one-year license to access interactive online content designed to deepen your expertise. Optional clock hours (up to 36) are available by registering for free pdEnroller events. Clock hours are awarded based on module completion during one or more of the following windows:
    • September–December 2025

    • January–June 2026

    • June–August 2026

  • Bridge-to-Practice: Apply your learning through classroom-based case studies and reflect on your experience during in-person sessions. These activities help you connect research to real instruction.

  • In-Person Sessions: Join educators from across the ESD 105 region in collaborative, hands-on learning that reinforces and extends your understanding.

Join us and transform your literacy teaching practice with LETRS. Embrace evidence-based strategies, build your instructional confidence, and help every student become a skilled, successful reader.
