Asynchronous Course
Presenters
- Theresa Hernandez
Description
This self-paced, asynchronous workshop provides educators with a foundational understanding of the reading brain and the cognitive processes involved in decoding, language comprehension, and literacy development. Participants will explore how the brain learns to read and why explicit, systematic instruction is essential for literacy success.
Additionally, participants will examine The Simple View of Reading (SVR), a research-backed framework that breaks down reading comprehension into word recognition and language comprehension. Through engaging readings, videos, interactive activities, and reflections, participants will strengthen their instructional knowledge and gain practical strategies for fostering literacy proficiency in all learners.
This module is asynchronous, allowing participants to complete it at their own pace while engaging with structured content designed to support evidence-based literacy instruction.
