Participants will explore the powerful connection between vocabulary and reading comprehension in the fourth course of the READ series (Responsive, Evidence-Based Approaches to Develop Literacy Skills). Grounded in the Science of Reading and aligned with research-based practices, this asynchronous course equips educators with practical strategies to support students’ academic language and content understanding.

Educators will deepen their understanding of how to teach vocabulary in ways that build knowledge and strengthen comprehension across content areas. Topics include vocabulary’s role in reading development, designing knowledge-rich text sets, using questioning routines to support meaning-making, and planning intentional, high-impact vocabulary instruction. Each lesson includes guided readings, application tasks, and reflection aligned to current instructional frameworks.
