Description
This course teaches registrants how to STOP THE BLEED when a person is experiencing life-threatening bleeding.
The three techniques to be taught are:
1. Compression
2. Wound packing and compression
3. Applying tourniquets.
This course also teaches how to identify life-threatening bleeding and the evidence-based best practices of each technique.
Discussion on the equipment a school district needs to have on hand will be part of the training.
This training is available at three different times, participants will receive 1.5 clock hours.

2024 Legislative Summary-
Adding new section to Chapter 28A.210 RCW-HEALTH—SCREENING AND REQUIREMENTS:
Summary: Bleeding Control Equipment. Beginning in the 2026-27 school year, school districts, charter schools, and state-tribal education compact schools must maintain and make available bleeding control equipment on each school campus for use in the event of a traumatic injury. Schools must inspect and inventory this equipment annually and after each use, and replace equipment as necessary.
School districts are encouraged to implement these requirements during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years.
Training. Each school must have a minimum of two employees per school who have completed training on using the bleeding control equipment. If a school has more than 1000 students it must have one trained employee per 500 students.
