Description
Exploring an authentic, local phenomenon is key to student engagement in STEM. Computational thinking is a critical practice of NGSS and is central to science and engineering. In this workshop, teachers will learn about a new science unit “Is the Pacific Northwest a Safe Place to Live” and ways to enhance computational thinking skills through the activities in this unit. In addition to an overview of the kit, teachers will practice using the data collection and analysis sensors that come with the kit and will have time to plan for implementing these activities in their own classroom. This unit explores Performance Expectations MS- ESS3-2, ESS2-3 and ETS1-4 and uses materials from the Catastrophic Events kit.
