Trauma-Informed Practices - Taking Care of Students and Ourselves

Trauma-Informed Practices - Taking Care of Students and Ourselves

Sat, January 12 2019 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Presenters

  • Monica Winkley

Description

All students come to us with assets. Some students also come with experiences such as those described in Kaiser's study on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). These experiences shape how the brain responds, especially to any perceived threat. Come join us to learn or review the brain research underlying ACEs and to explore trauma-informed practices. We will also explore self-care strategies for teachers so that we nurture ourselves while taking care of students.

Event Notes

Fostering Resilient Learners by Souers will be the main title used in class, with Onward by Aguilar being a secondary book and A Still Quiet Place for Teens by Saltzman as supplementary.

Barnes & Noble has many copies of these books on their shelves.  Also, with their free educator card, teachers can get 20% off on the books.
