Description
Join us for this class to learn how to help students create their own weather station. This hybrid class will demystify coding and basic electronics, help you empower students to build their own technical tools, and teach basics of data analysis for climate science. Each teacher will receive a micro:bits and a SparkFun micro:climate kit to use with students. We'll spend time learning the basics of coding, assembling the kit, and coding it to collect weather data. Additionally, we’ll discuss the basics of integrating this project into your curriculum, as well as take a look at data analysis. We’ll address connections to NGSS standards for science and engineering as well as Washington State computer science standards, and we’ll make connections to the science kits available via ESD 112’s STEM Materials Center.
This class is appropriate for upper elementary through middle school teachers who teach weather and climate as part of their curriculum. Basic coding experience is not required, but would be helpful.
