Permission to Feel, Unlocking the Power of Emotions to Help Our Kids, Ourselves, and Our Society Thrive is a book about emotions and how they play a vital role in our cognitive processes, physical health and relationships. The author, Marc Brackett, Ph.D., speaks to the importance of emotional intelligence and the implications for educators in classrooms. By giving ourselves permission to experience all of our emotions, we can reduce stress and increase our well-being and the well-being of our students.



This course renews annually and is ongoing.

Event Notes

Registration for courses is external through the registration link provided.  Course is taught by Teacher Study. Clock hours are sponsored by ESD 112.  Course fee is $175.  Clock hours are free to clock hour cooperative member districts in SW Washington.  Once you complete the course, you will be instructed how to claim the clock hours.

Agenda

Students will do the following:

  1. Purchase and read Permission to Feel, Unlocking the Power of Emotions to Help Our Kids, Ourselves, and Our Society Thrive, by Marc Brackett, Ph.D.


2) Write complete answers to all of the questions on the Book Study Handout. The handout is provided to you after registration is completed.


3) Write a 2-3 page paper detailing how you will address each of the five RULER Skills in your classroom: Recognizing Emotion, Understanding Emotion, Labeling Emotion, Expressing Emotion and Regulating Emotion.


  • Consider your own education setting and talk about each of the five RULER Skills.
  • Discuss which skill(s) will be the easiest to address, which skill(s) will be the hardest to address, and why.
