Description
This workshop is a training session for a pilot field trip program at Mount St. Helens Visitor Center. Mount St. Helens Institute and Washington State Parks have collaboratively developed a set of activities for before, during, and after a field trip to Mount St. Helens Visitor Center.
The in-person field trip experience includes a set of activity stations in which teachers and/or chaperones lead activities, guided by accompanying resources provided by the unit. We will walk through, reflect on and discuss these activities, which may influence further revisions.
These activities support the Next Generation Science Standards and include making observations that serve as evidence to explain a phenomenon: a landscape of change. Each activity incorporates a different technique for making observations of natural features that together provide examples of how interactions on a landscape change a landscape.
To receive the full amount of clock hours available, participants will be expected to provide feedback throughout the in-person training session, as well as up to 1 hour of reflection after the in-person session.
Event Notes
Participants that complete the full workshop - including providing feedback throughout the in-person training session and completing a post-workshop reflection form - are eligible to receive 6 STEM clock hours and a $150 stipend.
