With the passing of HB 1214, new training requirements were established for all school safety and security staff, including SRO's, SSO's, CSO's and private security (RCW 28A.400.345). The purpose of the bill was to clarify training requirements and create a high quality training program that would support School Safety and Security Staff as important partners in the educational process. The bill tasked Educational Service Districts (ESD's) to develop and conduct this training and to verify its satisfactory completion. United through the Association of Educational Service Districts (AESD), the nine ESDs are committed to collaborative, equitable, and transparent support of this effort.
