Description

Attendees in this workshop will review the cycle of risk management and response. The focus of this workshop will be on honing the tools and techniques of the attendees in order to manage risk safely and effectively. This process includes ensuring proactive Prevention strategies and effective De-escalation techniques. Post-crisis follow-up is practiced as well. A review of the ethical considerations and use of Physical Intervention will be practiced as a last resort in order to maintain safety. Time is provided to address specific challenges experienced by attendees during their previous certification period. 


Attendance Requirements:

  1. 1)  Current RIGHT RESPONSE Advanced or SECURE certification which no more than ninety (90) days expired. If attendee’s RIGHT RESPONSE or SECURE certification is more than ninety (90) days expired, the attendee must complete a RIGHT RESPONSE Advanced Certification Workshop to recertify. 
  2. 2)  Attend all workshop sessions in a safe and ethical manner 
  3. 3)  Active participation in all discussions, intervention activities and in-class assignments. 
  4. 4)  Participation in physical activity. Due to the nature of the skills taught in the Physical Safety section of the workshop, you may be participating in strenuous activities, such as simulating physical safety techniques. If you have a medical condition or disability that may prevent you from taking part in a skill session, or if you have any questions about your ability to participate fully in this course, discuss them with your health-care provider and the appropriate person in your Administration before you start your course. Wear comfortable clothing to the workshop; you may be working on the floor. 

 Certification Requirements: 

A certification valid for 1 year from the start of the workshop will be granted to those who attend and complete all workshop requirements. This specifically includes the Prevention, De-escalation, Postvention, and Physical Safety sections as described in 2) Syllabus of Advanced Workshop. Physical Intervention techniques are an integral component of this workshop although not all techniques are required and must be completed sequentially. 

NOTE: Staff are responsible for keeping track of their certification dates and when they expire.
