How To Reach Struggling Math Students By Implementing Universal Design For Learning (UDL)
Naomi Church for Grassroots Workshops
Description
If you feel overwhelmed because you have more students struggling in math than ever before and you don’t know what to do about it, this mini workshop is for you. It will help you feel more confident because you have strategies to plan for and support students regardless of their ability level.
To get there, we'll begin by considering why traditional teaching practices only meet some students’ needs. Then we'll explore what Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is and how the framework can better meet students’ needs. We'll also discuss how to engage struggling students and ensure that as many students understand the content as possible. Next, we'll delve into how students show that they have mastered the concept. Finally we'll clarify how to actually make it work in the classroom.
