Description
Graphs are everywhere -- even in a kindergartner's world! We need to prepare students to navigate an increasingly data-rich world, starting with our youngest students. Let’s explore what means to be data literate, and how a discourse-driven instructional routine called Slow Reveal Graphs helps students make sense of data visualizations. As more and more of the graph is revealed, students refine their interpretation and construct meaning, often in surprising ways. This session will include student work and examples from primary grade classrooms, with attention to building vocabulary, fostering curiosity, and making space for every voice in the room. This routine supports the new WA data science standards.
