As Washington transitions to WA ELA 2026 standards, district leaders have an opportunity to help educators move beyond teaching the language domains separately. This session will support ELA leaders in examining how the Reading; Writing; Language; Speaking, Listening, and Digital Forums; and Research and Media Literacy domains work together within standards-aligned instruction, curriculum, and assessment. Participants will explore practical approaches for identifying integration across WA ELA 2026, supporting coherent instructional shifts, and helping teachers design learning experiences in which students act as active decision-makers as they read to build knowledge, discuss and analyze ideas, and write in response to meaningful texts and topics.
