Description
Description
Led by George Christoph, PAEMST. Co-host of the popular book study Mathematics for Human Flourishing. George spent half a century in the secondary classroom, was a guest lecturer in mathematics for the University of Washington, and taught undergraduate mathematics and graduate education classes for Saint Martin’s University. George now works for Capital Region, ESD 113.
This lecture series is designed for secondary teachers of mathematics (6-12) who haven’t studied mathematics since earning a degree. There is more to math than arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and calculus. A new field of mathematics will be explored each month using a combination of Zoom, Canvas, lectures, group work, breakout rooms, individual conferences and individualized study.
There is a total of up to five clock hours per month (October-May):

Event Notes
This lecture series is based on a popular professional development I presented for and with the North Thurston School District for many years. The premise was that teachers could listen to, talk about, and interact with other teachers of mathematics in a relaxed atmosphere. The idea is not to learn how to teach some new idea in a new way on Monday morning. The idea is to wrestle with deep, rigorous, new forms of modern mathematics. The idea is to re-experience how it feels to be a student on the first day in a new year: Excited, wondering, anxious, and eager to begin.
