Description

Join us for an online information session about Sandy Hook Promise's free youth violence prevention programs for schools. A representative from Sandy Hook Promise will be sharing about their Start With Hello and Say Something programs and answering questions from participants.

Start With Hello (Grades K-12)

The Start with Hello program teaches youth to minimize social isolation, empathize with others, and create a more inclusive and connected culture by teaching students the following three steps:

1) See Someone Alone -Learn to understand social isolation, empathize with those who may feel alone, learn how “healthy alone time” is different, and emphasize the importance of connecting with others.

2) Reach Out and Help-Develop strategies for connecting with others and ways to alleviate anxiety about reaching out.

3) Start with Hello- Apply methods to include others, build lasting relationships, and support a connected and inclusive school and community.

Say Something (Grades K-12)

The Say Something program trains students to look for warning signs and threats -- especially on social media -- of someone at-risk of hurting themselves or others and to “say something” to a trusted adult before a tragedy can occur. This program is anchored in three essential steps:

1) Recognize warning signs and threats- Learn to understand and recognize warning signs or threats and where you are likely to find them.

2) Act immediately; take it seriously- Understand strategies to take action and overcome the barriers that may exist in being an “upstander” rather than a “bystander.”

3) Say Something to a trusted adult- Learn how to intervene when you see warning signs and threats by telling a trusted adult.
