Description

Educational systems and those who work in them have a tremendous amount of influence on students--who they are and who they will be. And because of that work, the adults in school systems deserve the opportunity to grow and heal from the personal and professional harm that has occurred in their lives as well, so as to be fully available for the students.

ESD 123 is proud to present “Belonging Through a Culture of Dignity,” taking place throughout the months of June, July and August. Participants will meet synchronously on June 25 and August 11-12, 2021. Presented by John Krownapple and Floyd Cobb, Belonging Through a Culture of Dignity supports schools with successfully implementing educational equity. This 3-day virtual event is enhanced by an online, self-paced, asynchronous study of the book. (All participants receive a copy of the book FREE with registration!) Sessions will bring clarity to what equity is all about so that we can address it through specific actions in our teaching, leading, or system practices. Through a journey that moves from awareness to commitment to action, this training helps schools honor the dignity of every learner. Participants will acquire a pragmatic framework of dignity and belonging that they can use to guide successful equity implementation.

Belonging Through a Culture of Dignity is the resource that I’ve been waiting for in my work. Dr. Floyd Cobb and John Krownapple layout how honoring dignity, “the innate, equal worth of each human being simply because that person is human,” is the way to equity in schools and all school systems.”

Event Notes

Helping Districts Meet State-Required Training:

This training helps satisfy the 2020-2021 requirements of Washington Senate Bill 6168, which requires school districts to “train school district staff on racial literacy, cultural responsiveness, and stereotype threat for purposes of closing persistent opportunity gaps.”
