CRE: Start time and lunch
Good Morning!
I hope everyone is getting excited about the learning sessions that start tomorrow. There was a bit of confusion with the start times, so I wanted to clarify that we will begin at 8:00 all three mornings (not 8:30 as some documents had indicated). Additionally, we will I wanted to let you know about our lunches. All three days will have a gluten free option. On the 21st lunch is Panera, on the 22nd it is Fiesta, and on the 23rd it is CG House. Finally, here is the message from our CSTP who is hosting this event:
Please take a moment to read important details listed below:
- We will meet at the ESD123 (3924 W Court St, Pasco), starting at 8:00 am in Cascade rooms 1 & 2.
- We will be working closely together while we learn, plan and converse, so out of respect for others in the space, please consider wearing a mask if you are experiencing any cold symptoms (i.e. coughing/sneezing).
- Bring a digital device (laptop) to access materials and handouts and your book Culturally Responsive Education in the Classroom. Ideally you have read/reviewed Chapters 3 & 4.
- Lunch and light snacks will be provided each day.
- We will begin at 8:00 each day and end by 3:00.

Description
The Culturally Responsive Education (CRE) Design Studio is a unique and intensive professional development experience in which individuals and teams receive coaching, facilitation and technical assistance from Dr. Adeyemi Stembridge, author of “Culturally Responsive Education in the Classroom.” Educators can expect to focus on issues that lie at the intersection of equity and pedagogy.
The Design Studio is based on the needs of educators and their students, and includes 18 hours of in person learning, coaching and technical assistance around the mental model that serves as the foundation for culturally responsive unit design.
Event Notes
The studio is best suited to instructional coaches, content coordinators, mentor teachers, and others who directly support in-classroom learning: the studio will offer frameworks, mental models, and real-life experiences that will guide future lesson planning. However, classroom teachers are welcome to attend: the design studio, at its core, is focused on student instruction and student experience.
Participants will engage deeply with Dr. Stembridge’s planning questions:
What do I want students to understand?
What do I want students to feel?
What are the targets for rigor?
What are the indicators for engagement?
What are the opportunities to be responsive?
Event Notes
Lunch will be provided.
