Description
Dyslexia represents the most common and prevalent of all known learning disabilities and impacts approximately 1 in 5 individuals. This one day professional learning experience will introduce educators and educational leaders to the characteristics of dyslexia and related learning disabilities, including common deficits and strengths, clarifying common misunderstandings, and introducing participants to the framework and specific elements of Structured Literacy Instruction, which is essential for students with dyslexia, but beneficial to all literacy learners.
During this course participants will learn practical pathways to teach reading to all students, including multilingual learners and those with reading difficulties, utilizing critical Tier 1 instructional practices that will complement any core reading program or curriculum. Participants will learn ways to assess young children for indicators of dyslexia and strategies to support their successful literacy learning along with planning and implementation of successful Tier 1 routines for all classrooms, K-12.
Participants will earn FREE clock hours through OSPI and will be provided with a delicious catered lunch.
