SIOP provides a coherent framework for teaching multilingual learners and their peers using sheltered instruction. When teachers consistently and systematically implement the SIOP Model’s 30 features in units and lessons, the result is high-quality, effective instruction and improvement of student achievement. In this eight-part series, one SIOP component (and its features) will be explored each month with the expectation that teachers integrate that component into their preparation and instruction. By stretching the components into manageable “chunks” over the school year, teachers have ample time to dig deep into the SIOP Model with focus and intentionality. An optional, follow-up Zoom check-in will be offered for teachers to share their progress, ask questions, seek clarification, and learn with and from one another. This eight-part course is designed to support both newcomers to the SIOP Model and those with more training and experience using the framework. While individual teachers will benefit from this series, we strongly encourage grade-level teams and departments to join together in this comprehensive learning journey to better support multilingual learners and their peers.
