Based on the science of behavior change, participants will learn assessment and communication skills that promote motivation for students to make sustained changes in their own behaviors. This is a Training Series composed of 10 hours over 4 meetings at the following dates and times: Aug 15-18, 2022 from 12:30pm to 3:00pm. Course Description: This live online training series on Motivational Interviewing for Student Support Professionals will provide a basic overview of the fundamentals of Motivational Interviewing as well as the latest updates. Whether you’ve heard of Motivational Interviewing or just want to improve your communication skills, this is a fantastic class to take! Unlike other traditional Motivational Interviewing courses we go beyond the acronyms of Motivational Interviewing and additionally teach the science of behavior change. Participants will discover assessment strategies and communication skills that foster sustained behavior change by tapping into students' intrinsic motivation. Aside from a didactic approach, there will be video examples, audience participation, and skill practice, creating a very interactive training experience. Includes a BONUS: Post-training support through free membership in the MI PLUS+ online community, where you will find access to micro-courses, live monthly events (training & Q & A), and a Motivational Interviewing library filled with skill building worksheets, videos, and more. Learning Objectives - You will learn how to: Recognize individuals' current stage-of-change mindset to assess their readiness to change, Identify how Equipoise affects the success of your Motivational Interviewing process, Deepen your empathy skills via strategic reflective statements you can use in your work, Recognize resistance talk, sustain talk, and change talk, and Decrease your students' resistance and increase their engagement in creating their own changes.
