Description

Rationale and Description: Tier 1 supports are universal and serve as a foundation for Tier 2 and 3

interventions.  However, implementation of Tier I PBIS can be challenging for schools.   Pitfalls for

Tier I implementation include challenges around teaming, building and maintaining culturally

responsive expectations schoolwide, and systematizing acknowledgement in a contextually

appropriate way.  Inconsistencies around discipline response system implementation are also

common.  This full day training will outline a series of common pitfalls around Tier I core

components such that participants will understand how to recognize, avoid, and remedy them in

their own contexts. Concrete solutions include tangible strategies to promote effective teaming,

encourage the creation and maintenance of schoolwide expectations, and scaffolding for

implementation of effective systematic acknowledgement.  Templates around discipline response

systems will be provided to support schools in creating effective Tier I strategies that minimize

exclusionary practices.
