In this portion of the training, you will learn how to configure different options as they relate to the security system in Skyward. The options you will learn include how to set the number of days until a user's password expires, the number of seconds until a user's session times out, the failed sign in count limit, and the session timeout length.

Security Setup will provide a good understanding of the three building blocks of security: security users, security groups, and roles. Security users will include anyone who will need access to any area of the software, while security groups link the user to the access they have to the software and the roles define the specific screen security a user has to the various areas of the software. All of these pieces work together to create a unique software experience for each of your users. At the end of this section you will learn how to generate reports to assist you in verifying that appropriate security access has been granted to each user.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to test a Security User's security access when setting up a new user in the system? In this section, you will learn how to impersonate another security user. This feature is also helpful when you are troubleshooting particular issues. For example, if a user claims they are unable to perform a task, the impersonation option allows you to see what that user sees when they log in to the database. Additionally, you will learn how to reset a security user's password if he or she forgets theirs.
