Presenters

  • Debra Kowalkowski
  • Geoff La Brant

Description

Initially adopted Washington State Mathematics Standards (WA Math 2025) are now available to the public and it is time to explore the updates, revisions, and additions.

In this interactive session participants will explore what has changed, what remains familiar, and what key shifts will mean for classroom teaching and learning. Through guided activities and discussion, we will examine how the updated standards are organized and how they support students with the skills and understanding needed for college, careers, and civic engagment as members of the community.

Participants will engage and develop an understanding of:

  • What is familiar and what has changed in content and expectations
  • Key Shifts, including the organization of Domains, expanded and updated focus on fluency in mathematics, and Data Science
  • Connections to Instruction, including how standards support reasoning, modeling, and student engagement
  • Consider implications for teaching and learning, with opportunities to reflect on current practice and think about next steps

While this session is focused on 6th - 12th mathematics, educators and leaders across grade levels are welcome and will gain insight into the broader K-12 coherence and progression of the standards.
